About Katolen Yardley
Doctor of Osteopathy (EU) ~ Manual Osteopathic Practitioner
Medical Herbalist
Katolen Yardley is a Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and practices as a Manual Osteopathic Practitioner, holding a degree of Doctor of Osteopathy (EU). She has been in private practice since 2000 consulting with clients at her Vancouver and Port Moody offices and internationally via virtual consultations.
Katolen has been in the holistic health field since 1993 with her primary education completed from the School of Phytotherapy (UK) before going on to complete her Doctorate degree in Osteopathy (Spain). With over 22 years in private practice and consulting expertise in the field of herbal medicine and holistic health, Katolen has dedicated her life to improving the health and wellbeing of her clients while actively contributing to the field of herbal medicine within Canada.
Her personal interest in health lies with the emotional connection to wellness and dis-ease. She specialises in women’s health, skin dis-ease, digestive and nervous system disorders. Katolen loves motivating others through usable tools of education and inspiration on a clients journey towards optimal health. She helps to transform lives and assists clients in reaching their highest health potential. Her health services are customized to the unique health picture of each client.
Herbal Medicine
In addition to caring for her clients and teaching, Katolen has spent much of her life in public service. Katolen is the current President of the Canadian Council of Herbalist Associations (2017- 2023). She served as President of the British Columbia Herbalist’s Association for 3 terms, from 2013-2019 and was honored by the British Columbia Herbalist’s Association for outstanding contribution during her time as President.
Katolen is the author of the book “The Good Living Guide to Natural and Herbal Remedies” (2016) and has both written and co authored two textbooks on natural and herbal remedies. She has been involved in curriculum development for numerous educational programs. She is adjunct faculty at Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine and the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine where she teaches Botanical Medicine and hands-on medicine making, and is an instructor and clinic supervisor at Dominion Herbal College. She served on the Steering Committee for Langara College in their Complimentary health program for Attention Deficit Disorders and was an instructor for the PTSD and Resiliency Program. From 1998 until 2015, Katolen appeared monthly on Global Television Morning News, offering herbal information to the public. Katolen offers hands on medicine making classes, herb walks and public talks at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens and UBC Sustainable Farm.
Katolen has been running a student clinic and herbal mentorship program since 2008. Apprenticeship training assists in preparing advanced students to become herbalists at the professional level through observation and hands-on practice in a clinic setting. Katolen has mentored students from Wild Rose College, Dominion Herbal College, Heartwood Herbal Medicine (UK), Betonica (UK) as well as mentored practitioners for professional membership in the American Herbalist Guild (US).
For 6 years Katolen managed the production of a busy herbal company, responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the manufacturing procedures of herbal formulations. She then went on to own and operate a wellness center in Vancouver with over 15 practitioners. Katolens herbal medicine training was completed at the School of Phytotherapy, UK, Dominion Herbal College and Wild Rose College. Her clinical experience and mentor-ship was completed at the School of Phytotherapy and Middlesex University (UK) with the late Christopher Hedley (UK) Chanchal Cabrera and Rowan Hamilton.
A natural health product formulator and private contractor, Katolen has researched and developed herbal formulations and is currently involved with completing product license applications for Canada’s Natural Health Product regulations. She offers Business Consulting for product development and to assist with all needed business needs
Osteopathy
Katolen offers hands-on Manual Osteopathic therapy and CranioSacral therapy. Her degree, Doctor of Osteopathy (EU) entailed over 3474 educational hours along with 1000 additional hours of Osteopathy Clinical Internship which complies with the World Health Organizations requirements for Osteopathic training. Katolen’s thesis was written on, “The Body as One Unit: The Role of Connective Tissue in Whole Body Health”. Osteopathy offers support for temporo-mandibular joint disorders, mobility issues, chronic pain management, headaches, repetitive strain injuries and trauma through a variety of manual osteopathic techniques including cranial osteopathy, mobilization, muscle energy techniques and visceral manipulation as well as support for chronic pain.
Katolen is a professional member in good standing with the ACMA and and the British Columbia Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners.
She has also completed additional training with:
